Manic Street Preachers are one of the most influential and iconic rock bands to have come out of Wales. Formed in Blackwood in 1986 they have gone on to release 14 studio albums and have headlined countless festivals including Glastonbury, T in the Park, V Festival and Reading & Leeds. They have won eleven NME Awards, eight Q Awards and four BRIT Awards and were also nominated for the Mercury Prize and the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Their first album ‘Generation Terrorists’ released in February 1992 was a hugely ambitious debut, establishing them as unique artists, combining classic rock riffs with the attitude of pop and punk and lyrically setting themselves head and shoulders above their contemporaries. Throughout the years they have collected fans from all over the world, maturing and changing musically whilst always keeping the classic Manics sound. At their live shows early tracks such as ‘You Love Us’ and ‘Motorcycle Emptiness’ comfortably sit alongside huge chart hits such as the No. 1 single ‘If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next’; other singles ‘You Stole The Sun From My Heart’, 'You Stole The Sun From My Heart' and ‘Design For Life’ mosh alongside newer songs such as ‘Orwellian’ and ‘The Secret He Had Missed', both taken from their most recent album 'The Ultra Vivid Lament' which reached No. 1 in the UK Album Charts in September 2021.
The critically acclaimed Sea Power have been added to the lineup for Manic Street Preacher’s huge outdoor show at The Embankment, Peterborough. Formerly known as British Sea Power, the diverse six-piece will bring their contemporary, conceptual style of indie and rock to what is set to be an unforgettable day and night of live music.
The Brighton-based Sea Power are firm favourites amongst fans and music peers alike. From David Bowie and Lou Reed to Daniel Radcliffe and Benedict Cumberbatch, Sea Power’s music has won them some remarkable admirers.
The band’s catalogue includes seven studio albums, with the most recent being the UK Album Chart No.4 record, Everything Was Forever. Each LP has received raving reviews across the width and breadth of the music press from NME, Rolling Stone, Q Magazine and many more.
From composing film scores and writing the BAFTA-Award winning soundtrack for the groundbreaking video game, Disco Elysium, to having racehorses and ocean-going yachts named after the band, there seems very few places to have resonated with Sea Power over their 20-years.
BBC 6 Music favourites, Low Hummer, have been added to the bill as one-to-watch talent in support of Manic Street Preachers at The Embankment on Sunday 12th June.
Low Hummer are a cutting edge addition to the Sunday afternoon bill alongside The Manics and the critically acclaimed Sea Power. Fusing styles of garage rock and post-punk with pop sensibilities, Low Hummer have been impressing, from NME and Clash to numerous BBC tastemaker DJs such as Jack Saunders (Radio1), Marc Riley (6Music) and Huw Stephens (Radio1).
They first arrived in 2019 with their fuzzed-up garage anthem ‘Don’t You Ever Sleep’ and instantly made their mark at BBC 6 Music, receiving a ‘6 Music Recommends Track of the Week’ plaudit and a feature on the Roundtable scoring the band a wining 9/10.
Hailing from Hull, East Yorkshire, the six-piece describe themselves as ‘misfits from a town left behind’. In Peterborough, they’ll bring a danceable set of garage rock complete with songs from the 2021 debut album, ‘Modern Tricks For Living’, including the lead single ‘Never Enough’, which was added to Radio 1’s playlist as BBC Introducing’s ‘Track Of The Week’.
