The Line Up
Few people have had as great an influence on the British music scene as Paul Weller. As frontman of The Jam, Weller spearheaded the Mod revival in the late '70s and early '80s, scoring a string of hits, including Going Underground and A Town Called Malice.
He had further success with the blue-eyed soul music of the Style Council in the mid to late ‘80s, before establishing himself as a solo artist. Paul Weller’s 15th solo album, On Sunset, was released in July 2020 and debuted atop the UK chart, giving Weller UK number-one albums spanning five consecutive decades. Weller’s 16th solo album, Fat Pop (Volume 1), was released to critical acclaim on 14 May 2021 and entered the charts at number-one.
Richard Hawley has been added to the lineup for Paul Weller’s three huge outdoor shows for summer 2022. The highly respected songwriter started out as a member of Britpop favourites The Longpigs before becoming Pulp’s guitarist. He has since gone on to forge an impressive and diverse solo career over two decades.
With eight studio albums to his name, two Mercury Music Prize nominations and a BRIT Award nomination for Best British Male, Richard Hawley is widely recognized as one of the UK’s foremost songwriters. His list of collaborators includes such eminent names as Arctic Monkeys, Manic Street Preachers, Elbow and Paul Weller.
Signed to respected labels such as Mute Records and Parlophone, Richard’s albums have been both critically acclaimed and commercially successful. Four of his albums reached the UK top 10, including his most recent release, 2019’s ‘Further’ which reached no.3 in the UK album charts, underlining the popularity and enduring appeal of this talented artist.
As a live performer, Richard has supported R.E.M, Nancy Sinatra and even performed with Elbow at Glastonbury. He has written multiple film scores, created an award-winning musical, produced the Sheffield band Hoggsboy and worked as a session musician for the likes of Jarvis Cocker, All Saints and Hank Marvin. He is a unique British talent.
Singer-songwriter Andrew Cushin has just been announced as support for this forthcoming Paul Weller concert. The 21-year old musician recently signed a record deal with the Strap Originals label, which is owned by Libertines legend Pete Dougherty. From a collaboration and recording with Britpop legend Noel Gallagher to sell out hometown gigs the multi-skilled musician is one of Newcastle’s rising talents.
Andrew Cushin’s songs are full of astute observations and honest meditations about life’s day–to–day tribulations. But despite the weight of the subject matter, his music possesses a tangible sense of hope too. He’s the product of his up bringing in Newcastle, and fittingly the city is embracing him as one of their own. His hometown headline shows all rapidly sell–out, including gigs at The Boiler Shop and The Cluny as well as a benefit night for the mental health charity Mind.
Despite restrictions limiting opportunities to play shows, Andrew Cushin achieved numerous live highlights across the UK throughout 2021. He supported The Lathums, Two Door Cinema Club and The Libertines, while major festivals included Reading, Leeds, Hit The North, Victorious and Boardmasters.
